UFC 109 Live Stream

This weekend's UFC 89 will be held in the Birmingham, England and will be broadcast for free on Spike TV. I'm glad this event is free because the fight card is fairly weak, with the main event featuring Michael Bisping vs Chris Leben. It also means that you dont have to fork out $$$ save it for the wagers.

WOW!! What a shocker in the Elite XC fights. Kimbo Slice gets his first defeat in MMA by Seth Petruzelli. Seth is not a house hold name in the MMA world but he just knocked out Kimbo Slice.

I went a perfect 3-0 with my predictions but due to a late fight card change with the Kimbo vs Shamrock that fight didnt happen. Your wager should have cancelled for that match. Im still well above .500 in my predictions.

Here is my analysis:

Paul Taylor (9-3-1) vs Chris Lytle (25-16-5)

Chris Lytle another one of those TUF, is coming off a loss to Josh Koscheck and is now facing a new comer Paul Taylor. I don't know much about this Taylor fellow but he is good on his feet and not too shabby on the ground. Since he is fairly new to UFC he hasn't fought any top notch fighters until now. The win should go to the well experienced Chris Lytle, his jujitsu skills are amazing along with his boxing skills. This fight will stay standing up lasting all three rounds.

Prediction: Chris Lytle

Keith Jardine +150 (13-4-1) vs Brandon Vera -180

Brandon Vera trains out in Silver Spring MD and Arlington VA, so he is a local favorite. He trains with Team Lloyd Irvin, the gym I use to train in so I cant pick against Vera. Vera has jumped back to natural weight class at 205lbs. This guy is “The Truth” he is well versed in ju-jitsu and an excellent kickboxer. His kicks are one of the hardest and toughest in MMA. He kicks like Tong Po from the movie Kickboxer. Keith Jardine has a very weak ground but he packs a mean punch. Vera will set the pace of the match by keeping the first round standing up and makes his move onto the ground in the later in the 2nd round. Vera will control the fight, take Jardine down for a submission in the second round.

Prediction: Brandon “The Truth” Vera second round submission

Main Event

Michael Bisping -240 (17-1) vs Chris Leben +190 (18-4)

Michael Bisping has gone back to true weight clas at 185. Bisping hasn't fought any top notch fighters at 185 and with his only lost by decision to Rashad Evans. Bisping is a fast and careless fighter. His conditioning is very poor and does not know how to pace himself for fights. Leben on the other hand has great conditioning but cant block punches and kicks. He has a very thick skull and can take punches to the head. Leben cant only take punches but has an excellent ground game and a fairly decent boxing skills. Bisping will take this fight all the way winning by decision in his hometown of the U.K.

Prediction: Michael Bisping Unanimous Decision

UFC 109 Live Stream

The UFC has become a popular sport over the most couple of years; I have even gotten into it myself. Some people might still think the UFC is barbaric, that they fight and don't have any rules. The truth is the UFC's rules have changed a lot over the years. In case you are a new viewer of the UFC I thought I would explain some of the rules.

The first thing to know is that the UFC has weight classes like boxing. The UFC does not want one fighter to have a huge advantage over another fighter because if one fighter outweighs another by 150 pounds it's not going to be a contest no matter how scrappy the smaller wrestler is. Here are the weight classes.

Lightweight 145 lbs to 155 lbs
Welterweight 155 lbs to 170 lbs
Middleweight 170 lbs to 185 lbs
Light Heavyweight 185 lbs to 205 lbs
Heavyweight 205 lbs to 265 lbs

Also like in boxing, a UFC match will be a certain amount of five minute rounds. If a fighter is knocked out or submits it's over. If the two fighters last all the scheduled rounds then there will be judges scoring the match that will decide the winner. Non-championship bouts will be three round bouts and championship bouts will be five rounds. In between each round the fighters will have one minute to rest.

As I stated earlier the UFC is not a totally barbaric sport, there are a lot of things in a bout that are illegal. There are no head butts, eye gouging, biting or hair pulling. This is not a fight with your sister it's a fight with a trained wrestler and/or martial artist.

Andrew Golota should never take up a UFC career because there is no groin attacks of any kind allowed. A fighter also may not stick their finger into any orifice, not even if you want to taunt them with a wet willy. No sticking your finger into another fighter's cut or laceration either because that's just gross.

No small joint manipulation is allowed in a UFC fight. No striking the spine, the back of the head or strikes to throat. A UFC fighter may not claw, pinch or twist the flesh. No grabbing clavicles. If an opponent is on the ground you may not kick or knee him in the head. You will never hear the phrase “stomping a mud hole in someone's ass and walking it dry” in the UFC because there is no stomping. There is also no kicking to the kidney but I can't think of any phrases that talk about kicking the kidney anyway.

Even though you may be tempted to do so, you may not throw your opponent over the fence around the ring. A UFC fighter may not use abusive language, can not attack an opponent during a break and can not attack an opponent that is being looked at by the referee.

Disregarding the UFC referee's instructions will get you disqualified, so will avoiding contact such as intentionally dropping your mouthpiece or faking an injury, and you know since this is a rule that somebody has probably tried it at some point.

So there you have it. UFC is a very civilized sport. Just as civilized as any other sport where the opponents punch and kick each other in the face, then knock them on the ground and twist their arm or leg until they give up.
